As with most fields of endeavour open source software is available for use as part of your technical communications solution. We though it would be useful then to provide a brief round-up of the technologies that we are using and, where only proprietary software is currently available, suggest how you might work around this.
We are Free software advocates in a political sense and are also encouraged by the benefits of Open Source collaboration between organisations to build software tools where those tools are non-differentiating. That is, if a tool simply costs money and doesn't promote you above the competition in your market, why not work with others to reduce that cost centre and bring mutual benefit?
The following Open Source tools are Free Software in that they do not rely on proprietary libraries to function. One additional excellent program that we cannot list here is Paint.net because it relies on the proprietary Microsoft .net framework:
